SpongeBob SquarePants cancelled is a rumor that is currently circulating the net. It all started with an image of Spongebob and text announcing the end of the show on October 17, 2016.
But Nickelodeon was quick to dismiss the speculations. Nostalgia hit fans and they took to social media to talk about their favorite residents of Bikini Bottom.
However, some critical fans did not take the news seriously as no major entertainment outfit had mentioned anything about Spongebob SquarePants cancelled.
This is not the first time that Spongebob SquarePants encountered a cancellation hoax. The same hoax spread on social media back in 2013. Similarly, the rumor was laid to rest immediately by Nickelodeon.
The internet can now relax as the show with colorful characters of Bikini Bottom has been renewed for season 10 and season 11. According to IMDb, season 10 will start airing on October 15, with its first episode entitled “Whirlybrains.”
Some people were not quite pleased with the news of the decade-long show’s return. A petition was even initiated for Spongebob SquarePants to get cancelled. Supposedly, the petitioners are not happy with the outcome of the current episodes and how co-creator Paul Tibbit is running the show.
Spongebob SquarePants Cancelled: The Petition
15-year old and avid fan Domenic Giangiulio expressed his sentiments in his petition that Spongebob and Patrick are acting way out of their characters. He even pointed out that Squidward is becoming more and more like an unlikable hypocrite.
The ardent fan identified more flaws in characters, such as Mr. Krabs getting more crappy plots and getting into unfunny situations. As for Sandy, Giangiulio describes the character as a sudden genius but has more awful ideas.
Giangiulio expressed his dislike to the new writers and is calling to bring back the old writers. He specifically requested the writers from seasons 1 to 3, which are probably Giangiulio’s favorite seasons of the show. Giangiulio was basically dissatisfied with the newer episodes as they were not bringing him the things that he love watching as a child.
Spongebob Squarepants has a massive following, especially as it had outlasted many other Nickelodeon shows.
